It is recommended that each of you choose a colour of font and use the same one throughout.
As you work on your social action project (committed to 12 hours of dedicated time to giving service to others) plus responding in a Wiki format with your group of three, you will answer the following question: In light of your understanding of who do you say that I am, what does it mean to be Christ to others through your project? You will share your thoughts and observations and actions of setting up to kinds of things you did to what you observed or saw to the final pieces of your project. At the end of your project (Dec. 2 or what you have completed thus far), your group will come up with a group response to Who do you say that I am based on your social action journey.
Let's start answering this question tonight.
What does it mean to you, "Who do you say that I am?"
I have been having trouble with this question since the start of the course because it seems so convoluted. The first few times that I heard it, I didn't know what to think about it and wasn't close to being able to answer it.
After discussing it in class and being able to hear the quote in its original context, I feel more informed about it. Hearing Jesus ask his disciple this question allowed me to put the proper emphasis on the words – when I read it now, I read it as “Who do you say that I am?”
With this emphasis, the question takes on a whole new meaning for me and there are several possible answers. The question seems to be asking what other people think of me, how they would view and describe me. Undoubtably, the question would be answered differently by the different groups of people that know me. My students would have a very different answer than my husband who would again answer differently than my old university roommates.
Hi, this is Tina Lockyer, I am not sure how we find out who is in our WIKI group so for now I will do my typing in Purple, as it is suggested that we all use a different colour. Who do you say that I am? I agree it is a very difficult question to answer and the response who be based on who is answering the question. As the above text states my students, my partner and my friends would all have a differetn idea. However, I do think it is important to make sure that the image people see you as is not so completely different then the image other people may see you as. I heard on the news on Friday that perspective employers will look a person up on "facebook" or "my space" to see how they portray themselves to friends before they hire them. I agree that if you are trying to say you are a responsible, respectable person you have to make sure that you portray an image with some consistancy. I try to do this regullarly and the image that personally would be different would be how my partner sees me, otherwise the image I portray is pretty consistant.
The action project that I am doing with Andrea (in the class and also at my school) os collecting and running Share-Life drives. We started on Mon. Oct. 6 in our staff meeting discussing some of our ideas and how we planned on implementing them. On Oct. 8 & 9 Andrea and I met at lunch to go over our ideas and put them into print and on a calendar. Next week we will present everything to our Principal and hope that he likes our plans for the year. Bye for now.
I hope to answer the question of "Who do you say that I am" throughout my daily experiences. I hope that to my students i am one that exhibits compassion. Now along those lines, my objective is to hopefully instill a little compassion into my students.
I have intiated this project in my World Religions class. The task at the beginning is simply to come up with something that everyone ion the class would want to partake in. This could range anywhere from a food drive, to some other form of community service. My hope is that everyone has input and that everyone is involved. Using the idea of thanksgiving, and keeping in mind all of the things that we are thankful for, what are some things that we take for granted and yet are not shared by the entire community. How can we change this? I look forward to their responses. ~Diego Saccon
I'm still confused about when we're supposed to post on here but in order to fulfil any expectations that I'm not aware of...
For the action project, I am planning a Science Olympics event for the local elementary students. Students from each of the feeder schools for St. Joseph's will come to the school in January to compete in events like an egg drop and building a windmill.
I tried to come up with an idea similar to a food drive but when I checked the school calendar, I found I wasn't able to fit anything in among the several other drives that the school does throughout the year. I decided to run the Olympics because it was a unique idea that didn't conflict with the rest of the calendar events.
We have been talking a lot about images of Jesus in class and I really like how this event relates to the image of Jesus as a teacher. I hope that the Olympics will inspire learning and interest in the participants and in that regard, my students and I are acting like teachers. Jesus was also very giving of his time and often ministered to children. My Senior Chemistry class is assisting me with the execution of the Olympics and will be fulfilling this role throughout the day.
Andrea The class has come up with a social action project involving a clothing drive. The idea is simply that you can trade in some old pieces of clothes, or clothes that you no longer want, for a snack. There are already students working on advertisements, modeling, announcements, criers, set up and clean up. The idea here is for the class to come together as a community to help the community. Everyone will work together to achieve a goal. This will also promote awareness within the school community about the less fortunate. As the weather gets colder we tend to forget about the people who find it difficult to keep warm in the winter, hopefully this will alleviate this issue. ~Diego
Hi everyone. I have spent some time on my social action project this week and last. After presenting all the Share Life ideas to the Principal we have found that this is going to work out quite well. Here is the list of ideas that have been put together.
Jeans for teachers on Fridays, Black and Orange Day for Halloween, Crazy Hat and Hair Days, Junior Division Bake Sale, Pygama Day, Hot Chocolate Sales, Christmas Families, Movie in the gym the week before Christmas holidays, Valentine-O-Grams, Popsicles Sales in the summer months. Each of these endeavours will help us in raising money for Share Life.
So far for the Black and Orange day we raised about $165, the jean days have not been as profitable, I assume this is because we always wore jeans on Friday without having to donate to Share Life. For the black and orage day my class created posters to post around the school and went to the classes collecting the money. We put announcements on the PA to drum up the excitement and also to let everyone know how much money was raised for Share Life. So far so good!

On Thursday, November 6th we held our very first clothing drive. A massive effort was put forth by all the students in the class. Together we collected over 20 full bags of clothes and we are looking to do the same on Friday. The students were out all week advertising and motivating the school community to donate to Saccon's Savoury Swap. Essentially the students bring in some old clothes in exchange for a snack. The idea being to create awareness in the community about the socio-economic issues that a number of members within our community face. We hope to collect enough material and awareness in the community to help alleviate this issue, especially as we approach the winter months

This week has been a busy one for the Social Action projects at Father F.X., the letters were written up and sent out to each of the teachers. My students have been busy making posters for the Crazy Hat Day on Nov.27 and the Christmas Families for Dec.12. The students are excited about both initiatives and the fact that they are led by our class. I had one student bring in gifts for our Christmas Family and this morning and also helped to drum up the excitment. Many students mentioned that their parents are going shopping this weekend. I am also very excited about all of the social action going on around here.

The olympics is off to a great start and I'm expecting a good turnout. The four schools that are invited are all looking forward to it and we even got a funding increase over the original estimate. (That almost never happens!)
I was surprised that one of the five elementary schools that we invited decided not to come. I figured that with us covering all costs as well as supervision, everyone would be a sure thing. I suppose that with everything on teachers plates it's hard to fit even something like this in.
My SCH 4C class will be helping me run the event and they are also looking forward to it. As much as possible, I have tried to pair them up with the students from schools that they attended, which is really increasing their enthusiasm.
Planning will wind down now, in time for Christmas. The assembling of packages for the events will take place during class once we come back in January.
So far, this has been a success!

DEFINITION: Who Do you Say that I Am?
I will refer back to the idea that I posted at the start of the wiki when we were trying to answer this question - I really put the emphasis on the 'You' in the question.
Different people will respond in different ways to this question about me. My kids would say something very different than my students. I am a variety of different things to different people which makes the question very hard to define in terms that works for everyone that I know.
Thoughts?

OFFICIAL DEFINITION
After giving this some thought and looking at what each of us has done for our project, this is part of the defintion for "who do you say that I am?" I think in simplest terms as a catholic educator we provide the example for our students. A lot of our students come from homes that have some serious issues, and these are the same students that think its cool to rebel and not believe in a higher power. That being said, the example we bring to them is that there is always someone out there who can help. Within our own social project we have taken the initiative to start something that will reverbrate throughout the community, however small it may seem to be. But that act has given someone else a little bit of hope, maybe with some affordable clothing or making them feel like they belong in the community. We are sending the message that if you want to be an active member in the community then there are avenues in which you can do this. These acts of kindness, compassion and forgiveness will strengthen your connection with God even if you don't realize it.
